Re: Basket Cases

Not a motorcycle clutch expert by any means but ! If the installed spring height is the same, then the force to release will be the same. Spring height longer (less compression in the spring) will give a lighter clutch. I would expect friction material to have a greater coefficient of friction than ...

Re: Cota 172 Restoration

The chassis is 19M1851, as I believe there were only about 1990 built I guess it’s pretty late, but I think it’s 1975. I’ve been waiting for my rear shocks to be rebuilt as the shaft of one was bent and wore the piston on one side. I have no doubt that it will be a good job but I have been waiting 2...

Re: Basket Cases

Thanks for the suggestions outforfun, but I have never bent a kickstart shaft but need to repair what someone else has managed to damage.
Unfortunately some people have very little mechanical sympathy

Re: Basket Cases

Greg
Thanks for the info. What type of chainsaw was the decompressor off.
It should certainly improve the life of the kickstart shaft (and my right leg)

Re: Basket Cases

Hi Kurt Yes, I realise the issues with a welded shaft. I’m constantly using option 2, but will probably end up with option 3 unless my luck changes. I did order a lot of parts from a Spanish supplier including a kick start shaft as they had it advertised on their web site. But they unfortunately cou...

Re: Basket Cases

Hi Everyone, Phil you are correct. The end of the shaft has been machined down where the spline was. Someone has been at it well before it came into my hands. Re: Basket Cases

Hi Everyone, Cota 123, I found what I believe is 123 parts, but no fork caps.. 89483D6D-382D-43D7-9AEB-42FD3AB5D4BD.jpeg Chippy Interestingly, That kick start shaft has a machined end where the spline should be. I need one for my 172 as the spline on mine is bent and twisted. Apparently the 123 and...
