David. I recall starting a thread on people still riding their original bikes a few years back. You and I were the only ones with photographic evidence.

A good mate of mine did buy his 172 Cota back. Loves it.

In my time I have bought a few good quality tanks with (photographically) minor rust inside. Expensive yes; but I have quite a few lined up and so far have yet to replace the original. Soak them in molasses for 12 months and some. Reckon they will see me out and the next couple of custodians as well...

Take a look at lubealloy.com.au.

I run one of their oils in my adventure bike and it shifts significantly smoother than off the shelf oils.

Yes Greg ... that is the bash plate. Mine has no rust at all, which astounds me as it is a complete moisture trap. Your photo shows that the mounting points have survived also.
