G'day Andrew, So you can at least cross the carby off the list, poor old amal much nicer carby than a mikuni :shock: few things you could try [or maybe you already have] have you tried disconnecting the kill switch wire at the primary wire connection to take it out of the equation HT coil really wel...

I have a mikuni flange mount carby that you can try off a sherpa t 325 give me a ring if you want to see how that goes.

What I found when I rode the bike a few weeks ago was when you rode it creating high manifold vaccum it went well off that it ran like it was extremely lean at high or low revs.

Sounds like a plan David maybe we could entice a few more out of some sheds around the place there must be a few still around. The "modern" m125 should be going very soon but the 49 takes some beating and its my favorite although I'll probably have to slip a set of tyres on her soon as som...
