Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

I have a couple of TY swinging arms and to be honest cant see much of a problem modifying one to accept a Gas Gas shock and linkages? Main advantage of a more modern shock is obviously improved suspension performance, but on the TY this would also allow a bigger air box. However for use in easier ev...

Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

Cant quite see how fitting a cheap rear unit and linkage that worked properly would mean your bike wouldnt be a TY any longer?

Lowering the rests as far as they will go, and reducing the chopper type steering angle will improve handling quite a bit.

Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

Plenty of non runner Gas Gas Pros around, so the easy way to modify the TY is to use the linkage parts from one of those, rather than attempting to use the TY parts, which wont work well with a modern shock anyway.

Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

Cheap and easy way to get good rear suspension on the TY, is to modify the linkage and fit unit from a modern bike, which are very often changed when bikes are new, by riders who upgrade to Ohlins.

Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

I wonder bearing in mind the cost of things like Pro Monty exhausts, and works type air boxes from Japan, what rear suspension unit are you using?

Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

I get the impression that nearly all the mods carried out in the 80s on TY Yams in UK, simply copied what had already been done in Japan. The Kato silencer for instance looks to be almost exactly the same as those sold in the UK by John Shirt and Mick Andrews. However all these mods are not likely t...

Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

That air box looks quite like the works type ones, which are also GRP..........is yours made in Japan I wonder? Lots of special parts for the TY Yam's were made by manufacturers such as Kato, who I think used to work pretty closely with the factory.

Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

Cant see there is any way to modify the stock TY air box, as there doesnt seem to be much space to make it any bigger? The works type ones were quite different to the stock ones, and utilised every scrap of space available to increase volume. OKO carbs work very well on the TY mono, but they must be...

Re: ty 250 mono aftermarket parts

Not quite sure if bikes built using very special Japanese works parts can be compared to modified stockers? Think the bike I have is fitted with a more modern shock from another machine, as the stock ones require machining to make them rebuildable and never seemed to perform that great anyway. Inter...
