NAM

Looks like good show for bike lovers but no trials riders???? Are we that short on A graders and Experts that we couldn't even have a look in?

We need more than one or two good riders on sponsored bikes in this state! It is about time the importers uped the image of the sport and put some money in instead of fluffing about on the edges. Gary Grealy showed them all what could be done with the Supertrial so why don't the people bringing the bikes into the country follow on??? I have tried to get the Jack Field show down here to no avail and other than the few good riders we have here doing their bit for the sake of the sport we are seriously up the creek :x

It is alright to sit back and say let someone else do the work but we will soon end up in a time when if you want a new bike you will have to be buying it on eBay and wearing your own spare parts importing. Isn't it time we took the bull by the horns and made something of our sport??

I think we should thank the long timers like Mal, Dave and Don that have been the main suppliers of bikes for many years but we need to catch up with the rest of the world. We aren't attracting the riders that could progress from bike trials, we aren't attracting riders from other categories, we can't keep many of the top riders we have and we are bloody lucky to attract more than a handful of spectators.

Let's face it, what we do we enjoy but to the rest of the world we are missing the plot............ sorry to de-rail your post NAM but it tweaked a nerve to see everone else having fun and us missing out.

i was actually attracted to trials for the low level of commercialism and the grassroots and family feel of the sport. i would love to see it grow and get the recognition and money it deserves but i haven't found another motorsport with the same level of heart. so while it needs commercial backing and events to take it to the public and attract more riders, i wouldn't want it to lose any of the charm that makes it so unique.

as far as i know, this event and the oran park event does cater to trials. but how much it does i don't know. but i do know the promoter enough to direct him to somebody from here that might be able to make things better... just an idea?

Hello All,

Maybe a bit of research is in order. Clearly outlined on the official 2 Wheel Moto Mayhem website is a rough schedule of all the events. Moto Trials is in the schedule for both the NSW and Vic events.

In NSW I organised shipping containers, 30 palets, 8 x 4 tonne concrete pipes, 12 mini skip dump bins and supplied the use of my 2 show trailers at the NSW event. As help was extremely hard to find, i was unable to run this as an event but rather as a demonstration. 10 riders demonstrated their skills, including the top 4 place getters at this years Australian Championships.

The organisers contacted me about the Victorian Moto Mayhem but I informed them it was too hard for me to run such an event again, on my own, from NSW. I supplied contact details for all the Victorian Clubs but as i was to learn a few months later, none of the Vic clubs would assist with this event.

2 weeks leading into the event the organisers requested my assistance again and my brother Kevin and I put in the hard yards and helped out by travelling down to Calder Park on the friday night after work, slept in the car, set up my 30 ft trailer and used as many obstacles we could find around Calder on Saturday to create a trials demonstration. On Sunday we rode every hour, on the hour and were greatly assisted by Tom Scott and Scott Owen. We packed up and drove back to Sydney by 3am and then went to work at 6am.

Overall i do not appreciate people talking out of turn without their research being done first. I have done the work to assist but I cannot get enough obstacles and organise an event for everyone on my own.
If those of you speaking on this forum, who do not name themselves, supported this event they would know that moto trials was displayed to a good standard at this event.

I have organised, set up and run 8 moto trials demonstrations this year with a number of these demonstration running over multiple days. I look forward to seeing someone other than myself and Jack Field putting trials into these multi discipline motorsport events.

Best Regards

Colin

My point exactly... We don't have enough riders good enough to but up decent shows here in Victoria. Half our Experts and A graders are either overseas, trying to make a living and battling to scrap up the cash to keep in new bikes every year. I haven't seen any real growth in riders numbers at the top end in 4 years. Makes it hard to promote the sport.

WOW

If that isn't dedication from Colin and Kevin to the sport of Trials then I'm not sure what is!

Well Done Guys!! :P :P :P :P

P.S Wollongong Club are having a 'practice afternoon' and BBQ/Campover at Les Boniface's farm, Kiama, this Saturday 15th Decfrom 2pm. It's a bit closer than Victoria if you are interested in a ride and you won't need to sleep in your car!!

Im glad you put a few facts forward Colin, maybe its about time MA provided or the Trials commissioners sort to access some of the funds they splash around to the other motorcycle codes, to give you promotional support.

Trials clubs Australia wide should willingly kick in when required and throw some support behind to two most professional and skilled riders this country has ever produced.

Keep up the tremendous displays you bring to the uneducated, perhaps they will, oneday, see the light.

Steve.

Wow Colin,

What an amazing show of commitment to this sport. You, Kevin and Richard show and extremely high level of dedication to this sport in all areas. And the results you guys produce are nothing short of extraordinary!!

It may be that I’ve missed a few post in the past. And this suggestion my not be workable for all. But if you ever need help, why not ask for it here, on TA?
I’m sure most of us would be keen to work with the stars (and the Zar’s  ). And although I can’t ride like you guys I can still move a pallet or two (or what ever else needs doing).

Best of balance.

Thankyou everyone for your support and kind words.
In the future, if i am involved in such events as the Moto Mayhem, then i will definitly ask for assistance from the trials community by placing a post on this website.

Overall i get a good response from my shows and people love to watch moto trials. But, in addition to demonstrating all the modern tricks and skills, people would like to see juniors and intermediate level riders on some obstacles. The general public and part of the Australian motorcycling community watch my demonstrations and enjoy it but also say, "I could never do that".

If there is someone interested in making and/or transporting obstacles to and from such events as the Moto Mayhem that will cater to juniors and intermediate riders i would be interested in hearing from you and working with you for future events. I already tow 2 very large trailers to my demonstrations and i am unable to supply additional equipment to cater for all levels of riders.
