The state government is doing an overhaul of rural planning zones. One of the changes proposed is remove Motor Racing Track from the prohibited use list. I'll post more details in a couple of days. It is important for us to make submissions to support this as trials event fall under the term motor racing track and legally can not be held on rural where it is not an existing use.

Sorry for the delay in the follow up but a couple of days in hospital in SA and few days recovering slowed me up a little. All's good now so here we go.

Back in about 2006 the then Labour gov in Victoria revamped the planning requirements for a number of zones including the Farm Zone. In there wisdom a prohibition of "Motor Racing Track" was included in the zone. While not tightly enforced due to many events (4X4, Off Road Racing, etc.) largely being conducted under the radar it has limited options for event organisers. In their wisdom the current government is about to change the planning requirement and allow "Motor Racing Track" as a use that can seek a planning permit.

What difference will this make if they do?

Events such as the International super trial held at Sedgwick a few years ago could soon again be held on private land as could any future WTC rounds. We were so lucky to have had the use of the public land at Maldon this year but this may not always be the case.

Please go to the below webpage and have a read. http://www.dpcd.vic.gov.au/planning/the ... ural-zones

I urge you to make a submission supporting the changes to the Farm Zone and also suggest you seek "Motor Racing Track" be removed from the "Green Wedge Zone" as this also has an impact on areas used by some trials and off road competition locations.

Submissions Close 21 September 2012
