Shirts Out, Why?

Postby Rod » Mon Apr 29, 2013 9:16 pm

This is just something that has irritated me for years, riders wearing the latest boots, pants, helmet, gloves and they top it off with some obscure billabong t-shirt or whatever that they can't be bothered tucking into their pants. I'm not suggesting lycra either, as most of us would look repulsive in such gear.
Please don't tell me that it restricts their movement if tucked in as i know otherwise. I know this is a bit of a rant, but it looks very unprofessional.

err it's better ventilation in hot weather to have a shirt untucked and you can dry your glasses on a cotton shirt? (that's why I do it anyway)
When I start making my living from riding trials for a sponsor, I will start worrying about what people think of my riding attire

4th vote to "out" I'm afraid

Best of ventilated balance.

I would have to say that my shirt being out looks correct with my Gum Boots when I ride! And my ratty Bultaco!

I suppose I could go out and get myself the latest boots (actually I don't believe I can as I still have never seen Trials boots in a size 15 or 16) fancy pants, helmet and gloves. Maybe I could even get a bike made this century. I could perhaps even make myself look reasonably presentable, but one look at my riding will show I'm anything but professional.

Like the vast majority of riders,I only do this for fun, and so because of all the reasons previously stated, and because I'm more comfortable with it, for me it continues to be shirt out.

Hi Everyone,

Can't remember seeing anyone riding with their shirts tucked in, never really looked! Riding shirts out for me like most that have replied, Cooler!

My Question is: How do you stop your, or in this case my sometimes Odd Socks from ending up in the bottom of your/my boots?

Please refrain from suggesting suspenders as I will have to draw the line on that one!

Greg, there are two blokes in my local club who have the sock thing sorted. They both wear socks that go an extremely long way up their legs and I think they tuck the tops of their socks into the legs of their bicycle shorts. They wear riding pants over the lot so as "not to upset onlookers". I will see if I can get a photo this weekend at our 2 day trial.
Another "dress code" issue came up about 15 years ago at a local trial. A young bloke had packed his riding gear and bike into his ute (in a rush) then spent the night before the trial at his girlfriends place, arriving at the trial still in his satin boxer shorts. Getting ready to ride, he realised he had not packed his riding pants - no problem, he just rode the trial in his satin boxer shorts.
