Re: Montesa Cota 172
I have a factory 172 Cota manual which says 900cc of 10-30w oil in total for clutch & gearbox - which sounds a bit high for such small crankcases & is a good deal more than they list for the 247 & 348 engines.
The two factory 123 Cota manuals I have list diff specs to that & to each other! And it's the same engine.
One says 600cc of 10-30w oil in total for clutch & gearbox
The other says 300cc of 90w oil for the gearbox & 200cc of 10-30w for the clutch
A Clymer manual lists 600cc in total for Cota 123 clutch & gearbox. The 172 isn't listed
Clear as mud?

Re: Montesa Cota 172
Thx JC1, 900cc of 10/30w is probably correct, I got the same answer on another forum & yes it sounds a ton to much, the stuff I drained only went to about 500cc & smelt like gear oil, musta bin changed recently, it was a lovely shade of blue. Re the differences in manuals, later model cota's seem to have different specs to earlier ones, something worth keeping an eye out for.
Re: Montesa Cota 172
Hi, see you mentioned 2 different oil quantities for Cota 123, you would happen to know which value is for an early 80's White tank model? I'm struggling to find any info or a manual. Engine/frame is 28M
