Has anyone rebuilt these ol' shockers? 74-ish TL125 k.
I'd like to rebuild and re-fit my original Honda rear shocks, (in place of the Konis that I fitted many years ago) but does anyone know if seals are available?
(Yes I DO know that they'll still be lousy even if reco'd, but I'd like to do it anyway).

What usually stops people doing it is not the lack of available seals. It's the effort (or cost if you are paying someone) required to do the rest of the job

Re: TL125 Rear shock rebuild?
Rebuilding old shocks like TL125 usually requires the seal carrier sections to be cut off the old shocks and new ones machined up to suit and then welded on.
This simplifies finding a seal because it only has to fit the rod diameter, you make the holders to fit the OD of whatever seal you can get.
To verify that a suitable seal size exists (it will), measure the rod diameter and look up on a web list or in a bearing shop what seals are available that suit that diameter. The seal should be of the type intended for axial motion not rotation.

Re: TL125 Rear shock rebuild?
I just had a look at my rear shocks on my Cota 172 and they are branded TELESCO.
There is a nut on the upper end of the lower body.
Is it just a case of undoing this nut (through the spring) to get the shock apart and then replace everything that's worn.

Yeah Phil, cota schmota... You mean they're designed to be reco'd?
Bluddy'ell, trust the spaniards!
(Oooh David's got me worried now, doesn't look that easy eh? I was thinking, hmmm, can't be that hard, -drill and drain them, unscrew and extract the damper rod assembly, fit new seals, screw up, inject oil, seal. How naive am I?)
Where there's a will there's a pair of undamped shocks!

Jools if you can find a way to unscrew TL125 shock bodies to get to the seal I will be very impressed

Unless you want a big surprise its a good idea to take the spring off first

I'm afraid I'm a long way from impressing you David.
My spanner is called Dremel.
Seriously though, anything (well almost) can be fixed, it's just a matter of how hard you want to try eh?
I haven't pulled 'em down yet, be interesting. Other 'non-servicable' units I've encountered can be fixed, but needed cutting apart, then installation of a valve for oil filling, then silver soldering back together after fitting new seals.
