Hi, Everyone
i have always had a interest in twin shock trials and have decided after visiting Denman club last week i am going for it.
i have picked up a Ty 175 needs a bit of a tidy up to start, however i have done some research and cant identify exact model only 77 onwards.engine and frame match numbers are *525-223091* this was a ex comp bike from Newcastle area and has been in storage.
i cant put my finger on it but theres something different from my previous ty175 owned.
frame is white not sure if this is original or not ,but does look original.exhaust has been modified from barrel in sections ,also chasing carby for this bike as it is the only part missing.
any information or help would be great thanks.

If you post a decent picture someone will quickly be able to say what is non-standard.
It is probably the competition model TY175 model sold here in early 1980s. It shouldn't matter what model it is though because all the 525 prefix models are the same mechanically anyway - the only differences to the B and C models being paint and graphics. If you want to make it look original, there are good pictures of what you bike should look like in an early edition of VMX magazine that had an article about TY175s. All TY175s came new with silver frames.
You should be able to get a second hand carby easily enough - there are plenty of TY175s being sold off for parts by wreckers and individuals here and in the UK. Have a look on eBay if no-one offers you one. Be aware the carby from the TY175 JC has different jetting to the one for your bike.

The only thing I can see that looks a bit strange is that the front of the fuel tank is sitting high relative to the frame. If it is like that because the tank is just sitting there for the photo, that's probably all it is. If not have a look for evidence of frame mods.

Thanks David,
do you think this is a c/d/e model, what year would you guess?
heres a photo of exhaust not sure whether repaired or modified at some time.

Azza,
Looks like a repair to me. They have cut out the rusted/crushed section and replaced the bend with small sections of straight pipe. The TY I recently purchase was crushed in the same area. I repaired it using two mandrel bends from an exhaust shop. They were only fairly cheap too (approx $20).
Good luck with the tidyup.

Can't tell if D or E model. D is 1977. C model engine number starts with a 1 and yours starts with a 2 - hence D or later model. As I said before they are all the same mechanically, so unless there are the remains of the original paint scheme on the tank under that red paint, it will be difficult to know. What does it matter? You can buy the tank decals for all the different paint schemes for TY175s - which one do you like the look of?
The plastic side cover is C model colour and the exhaust heat shield is B model colour.
Is the frame number different to the engine number?
