Re: Basket Cases
That looks good Greg. I know of a very late Piuma with a red frame, 2/86 on the compliance plate which sat for years with no fuel in the tank. I got it going last week and we left some fuel in the tank and it cracked on both sides on the front sharp bend behind where the 250 or 350 stickers are supposed to be. It ran well but now needs crank seals and the petrol tank being repaired. It is a 350 by the way. It had only done 3 trials with a sidecar on it. Oh well!

I also forgot to say Thank You David for sparing me having to look at an imitation Spanish Trials Bike airfilter.

Anyone got any theories?
Theory No 1 - no change and I'll buy you a cappucino at Juan's cafe if there is any improvement to the tank from the soaking.
Theory No 2 - if there is a fire in the boom room it will be a good one.
Theory No 3 - the Italjet tank manufacturer sourced their raw plastic beads from the same manufacturer as whoever made the PE Suzuki tanks

cylinder head shape changes
I remember that a week or so ago, Guy53 and I were discussing the trend to modifying the shape of the combustion chamber on 1970s two stroke motorbikes to avoid some combustion issues that are associated with the use of modern pump petrol. What they are doing is replicating the shape of the combustion chamber of a modern two strokes (like a KTM enduro bike for example).
I just came across a couple of nice photos on Facebook of a Bultaco cylinder head that has just had this modification. For more details on this bike you can look at the Facebook page "Bultaco" run by Darren Beatty

Now next project... (take a deep breath... do I go for the Sherpa T or not? Eeek!)
Jools, Your TY looks really Good! It is always good to get a Basket Case back into one piece and ride them.
Yes :Bultaco: , I have to agree with Graham, do the M49 Next! It might motivate me to get my M49 back into one Piece?
It would be nice to line up David's beautiful series 1, your series 2 and my series 3! Jump in here Graham if I am wrong but I think they have the most chrome out of all the Sherpa T Models! :Bultaco: :Bultaco: :Bultaco:
Don't forget Brownie's M49 for when we get them all together. They are very picturesque. What other M49s are out there?

Re: Basket Cases
I`m waiting for the weather to fine up so I can paint the frame of a M49 and after I have done that I can then put it all back together after I also paint the tank and the airbox cover. I`m not sure which series this one is. I need to have a close look at it. I have had all the engine apart and put new bearings and seals in it. Bore is good and it has some new rings now. It is owned by a friend. I have even had all the nuts and bolts electroplated.

Re: Basket Cases
ON the plastics affected by fuel. Most plastics have issues with petro chemicals permeating through the plastic upsetting paint and stickers.
Here's an interesting one poly pipe cant be used where petro chemicals are in the ground as it will soak through!
so don't pour your old fuel over where your water main is to your dwelling. That happen to a painter at the Gold coast cleaning his gear in his gravel drive way smelt the turps in the water in the shower had the water tested and yep there it was !!
Been a few issues with termicides being a petrochemical getting into the poly mains of houses!
Makes you think twice about poisoning the termites around your house as you may be poisoning your self too!
So plastic defiantly will leach fuels!!
