Made a start on pulling down my villiers barrel to discover this. Circlip broke allowing the gudgeon pin to float. 20 thou gouge in the wall. Have a 66mm 60 thou oversize Hepolite spare, but no rings. Anyone have any ???? or thoughts ???? hopefully 60 thou oversize is enough, to clean things up.
Canondale maybe out this year  But will be ther next year. The local engineer reboring the barrel says he can get some rings from the States. Takes a couple of weeks. $30 odd each.

Try Frank Conley in California - I purchased numerous parts for a 380 Greeves Griffon rebuild - always helpful http://www.greevesguru.com. or Greeves in UK http://www.greevesmotorcyclesltd.com. Cheers Andrew T

Sorry to see the damage caused by the circlip problem.
You would be able to find everything you require from Villiers Service at Dudley in the UK, www.villiersservices.co.uk.
Their service is fast and reliable.
What happened to the piece of circlip
Cheers

Thanks for the replies.
you can see part of the clip embedded in the top of the piston.I think the rest rattled around the head, then went out the exhaust port.

Hi There, I bought a replacement piston and rings from JP pistons in South Australia for my Greeves engined Vibsa (Couldn't find a Greeves frame!). They have a website and sell rings seperately and will make a special oversize piston as well if you need to go way oversize to get out past the gouge. They are not as cheap as some suppliers however.
Regards Geoff.

Thanks for your reply Geoff,
Barrel out to 60 thou ( just, as last hone removed the final marks ) :D
New rings from USA on the way, two sets just in case. Four overseas villiers suppliers couldnt help. But new CR type pistons, for villiers, were $100 ( 65 pounds ) plus extra for postage.

Hi Whitehillbilly, You mention CR type pistons. Do you mean CR Honda type pistons, if so, tha'ts a new one on me. Perhaps you could provide some contacts or specs for this piston type for my future reference as I will have more engine rebuilds to do, no doubt.
Thanks, Geoff Lewis

Rings arrived from the States, at $20 each, two sets ordered, plus postage, $90 all up.
Next problem is there is a slight bevel, on the inside of the ring.
Should the bevel, when the ring is in place, be up or down.
The engine reconditioner, thinks they both should be up, but isnt sure, sayin sometime on a 4 stroke motor the second ring has the bevel on the down side.
before I notch the rings would like some imput. it is only a villiers producing 12 odd HP
