TY250A Fuel Tank

Postby thornie » Thu Apr 18, 2013 3:36 am

In the very last stage of restoring a TY250A and found that the fuel tank on the bike is aluminium.
Would I be correct in assuming this tank is more likely to have come from a 1977 TY250D part number 493-24110-00-06 and if so are these tanks commonly available?
Also on the original tank is the Yamaha decal and pinstripe on top or under the clear coat?
Thanks for any advice.

Alloy TY250 tanks are the same from any of the models after the TY250A. The alloy ones are more readily available than the steel TY250A tank because they don't rust and because there were a lot more TY250s sold after the A model than the A model sold. If you are wanting one, there is a TY250A model tank on aussie ebay right now
Yes the decals and pinstripes are underneath the clear on the A and later models
