Does it look like they have been ground off?
Here are a couple for reference

Nah, doesn't look like anything has been ground off, another mystery with these old beauties, perhaps.
Any shininess in the pics is due to me with a soft wire brush having removed any grunge.
Cheers.

Hi Rod,
I think 'back in the day'
New-replacement cases were not stamped so you could DIY stamp and keep the engine numbers matching.
Cheers

Yeah, good call, that's a possibility. I'm not concerned, just curious.

Did the Ossa engine number match their frame number? Like Bultaco's did.

Rod I went to have a look for the first time at :ossa frame numbers to see if mine matched and found something surprising.
I found an engine number the same as a frame number, but they were in different bikes!!!
One :ossa had an engine number that matched the frame number of a different :ossa
I bought them from different people years apart!
A possible explanation is that both bikes may have been owned at some point by Robert Marsden. I know that the seller of the bike with the matching frame number had bought the bike from Robert.
The other :ossa, with the matching engine number, I bought from Darryl Martin and I can't remember what he told me about the history of the bike except that he repaired the frame on it when he was an apprentice.

Just for something interesting for an Ossa owner. I`ll be working on an Ossa road bike very soon. I`ll take some photos of it when I get it to have a look over it. The owner wants me to get it going for him. That is weird with your 2 Ossas David!
