Montesa Cota 349 number 2

Postby Kombivan » Fri Jul 11, 2014 2:06 am

This basket case Cost $400 in 2004 Montesa Cota 349. Thought the frame was bent but it was the twisting caused by the welding of the bulkhead whatever it is called.

Nice job on the tank, I had one of those new back in 1980, good bike accept for very tight turns (no one was hopping back then at least locally) keep an eye on the braces behind the motor they used to come loose and cause the backbone to crack,
It was the best bike for wheelies I have owned.looking forward to seeing the finished project.

The crack has been welded up by an auto engineer that certifies hotrods etc so all's kool with that nasty crack.

Nice job indeed and yes I do love enthusiasm. I have four brand new engine braces if interested and a few other bits and pieces left from my 348 resto?

My Brand New 248 frame came in the mail yesterday 248 and 349 frames are the same except for the colour and part number.
These 349's use the same piston as a Macio 350 if anyone needs to know. 8)

The place to find cheap steering head bearings Tapered. Also these are the only Manufactures for the Montesa Tapered bearings but keep tour old dust covers as the dust covers with the bearings don't always fit. In other words their made to size but the use is non specific. They are also very smooth. When you press or bash them in remember to use a block of wood so you don't ruin the bearing. =D>

My budget is slowing me down with these rebuilds.

Things holding me up with this is finance as I just had an expensive repair on my boat done and that will take about a year to clear and had a 9 month wait on parts from Vallmoto but they are reliable. and the engine parts I have to get will be expensive and a long wait. For those interested the white tank models are a bit easier to get new parts for that would be 82, 84 etc. There are a few things that are different and need to be sourced elsewhere for the earlier 79-80 models.
