Has anyone used Pirelli MT 43 trials tyres on a TY175?
I have found some people have had problems with tubeless tyres on tube type rims with the bead popping off. I need to put new tyres on my TY to be able to ride it at trials meetings. I am not sure if I should use the cheaper Pirelli MT 43 or the Michelin X - 11.
It currently has a very old and perished Michelin MX - 11 and has no problems at 4 PSI. This may also be because it is old and little hard? The front is a trail bike tyre.
My Ty was not used as a trials bike by the previous owner. I have fitted a shark fin and the silly lanyard type kill switch. (Strange that we need them on a trials bike, but not on motocross or any fast race bikes) I think it is now ready for trials once again.
Thanks for any help others can give.

Not sure if this helps, but i use an MT43 on my modern trail bike with a tube at anywhere from 6-8psi.

Re: TY175 trials tyres
I went the scaredy cat safe option. I have Michelin MX - 11 on both the front and rear of my Sherco.
I kinda know how they perform and that they are great for traction, so I went with them. I have found the odd bit of negative info on the other tyres and am not keen on spending almost the same amount on the other tyre to find I should have gone with the dearer Michies.
I am just hoping they stay on the TY rims.

Re: TY175 trials tyres
Well I would use a Michelin X - 11 if I could buy one. I have been able to obtain a front tyre, but not the rear.
Apparently Michelin have removed the 4.00 x 18 tyre size I am after, and replaced it with the 100 18 (or something like that)
So now I am waiting for one on back order since around 20 December last year. Not such a good thing. I have even contacted Michelin Australia with no results.
Does anyone know where I might be able to get hold of a new Michelin X -11 in the 4.00 x 18 tyre size?
Preferably near by to Kingaroy or at a reasonable postage rate.
Cheers and happy riding.

Re: TY175 trials tyres
The 100 x 100 X 11 is the same tyre as the 400 X 11. It just uses the metric sizing system which tells you the width and the profile of the tyre. That is the only change. We have only had the metric system in place for about 45 years or so so it is not surprising that the tyre companies have finally started to change their sizes.

Michelin do not produce the X-11 in a "tubed type" any more. They are not available in any market around the world, Kaput, Finished.
Plenty of X-11 "tubeless" types available, and we also have Dunlop 803's and Michelin X-Lite Comps.
The Pirelli's are very very hard. Suitable for road use, but not much chop for true trials.

We can crate and freight bikes Australia wide for very reasonable rates. Ring or email with your location for freight quote.
