1974 RL 250 Suzuki help please

Postby lorenzo » Sat Mar 14, 2015 4:03 am

Hello from Nebraska.

Im restoring an Rl and I have a couple questions.
It's the aluminum tank model 1974 and I am searching for the correct decals for the side covers that are mounted under the seat area.
Is it me or are there different decals for the 1974 verses the 1975 model ?
All the reproduction decals I can find are slightly different then the originals that are on my bike and I am trying to be as exact as possible.
I also would like to know if anyone has the paint color code number for the silver on the frame and front fender?
If your first thought is to send me to matrix motor sports in Iowa forget it. I have been calling him for over a year and have sent dozens of emails with no response.
My sources tell me that place no longer exists for what ever reason.

I seam to have exhausted all the US sources for this stuff and some of the stuff I have gotten out of the UK is close but not close enough.

BTW I have 5 of these and am building one good one from the pile so when im done there will be lots of stuff for sale.
Here is a picture of the decals I am referring to and some pictures of my bike and some tanks I repaired.

G'day mate, I'm rebuilding a '75 rl250 and went through the same thing with paint colours. In the end i just tried a couple of auto paint spray packs till i got one i liked.

If you have a signwriter/sticker manufacturer local to you they should be able to scan the new sticker you have and tweak it to match the original.

Hi Larry,

:suzuki RL 250 x 5, Very impressive!

Easy to understand why you want your RL to be exact, even :suzuki called it an Exacta all those years ago.

Not sure if this helps, but I just picked this up:

Sorry no paint codes, but this is what :suzuki called the colours.

The parts book lists the side covers and differentiates left and right along with L (your model) and M, but it seems the side covers came complete with transfers when it was printed?
Unfortunately my experience with Matrix Motor Sports has been unsuccessful, perhaps we should get Mike and Frank to pay him a visit. They are from Iowa and I think it would make an interesting Episode?

A friend phoned last night and mentioned that there is a warning about Matrix Motorsport on the home page of the Beamish Owners Club website
