Hi all,
Just picked up a glamour TY80B.
Tank has been resprayed (stock colour / style) and seat has been re-upholstered but rest of the bike is "Stock" and in great nick to look at.
Carby is a different situation though. The old gent I bought it from told me it was all blocked up (bike had been in storage for many years). He couldn't clean out the pilot jet so he ran a 1.5mm drill thru it.
I have been able to source a carby rebuild kit which includes a new pilot jet from Yambits in the UK.
Biggest issue is the slide must have been covered in crap too, don't know how or what he cleaned it with but almost all of the coating has come off the slide & its a little rough in its feel & doesn't slide up & down in the carby body very well.
Does anybody have a slide to suit a 20mm TK carby off a TY80 they are willing to sell or even a complete carby may interest me.
Any response / help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
TY 80 Carby slide

Re: TY 80 Carby slide
I have a worn carby that was on our TY80 when we got it, but from memory I think some of the anodising is worn off the slide so it is not perfect. I'll have a look at it tomorrow

Re: TY 80 Carby slide
Gary I found the old TY80 carby and the slide in it is extremely worn. It has worn off the plating over about 70% of the sliding surface and has an impression of the downstream side of the venturi worn even deeper. With the slide at the bottom of its travel the slide has about 1.5mm fore and aft play in the carb body. Pretty sure it is not what you want

Re: TY 80 Carby slide
Thanx for looking David.
Sounds similar to worn out slide I already have.
I went to my local Yamaha store today & the Slides are 'No Longer Available' from Yamaha
Any ideas on re-coating ???
Cheers

Re: TY 80 Carby slide
The usual thing with reconditioning carbies is to fit a sleeve into the body and fit a new slide. In the case of no new slide being available, the slide could be turned down to a smaller diameter and the body re-sleeved to suit the new diameter. I'm sure it would have been done before
Another option would be to adapt a similar sized two-stroke carby to fit to the TY. I think the carby on my son's modern GasGas 50 might be a suitable type
