20.4 lists all senior classes/grades that can be implemented in any event.

20.1 lists the names of the grades eligible for an Aus titles event from the table 20.4.

Hence below is the list of grades from 20.4 that are eligible for the aus titles.

20.1 CATEGORIES FOR SENIOR AUSTRALIAN TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Solo (This should read Open Solo)
Sidecar This should read Open Sidecar
Classic
Post Classic
Youth
Veteran 40 years+
Women This should read Open Women

If you then examine 20.4, as below.

20.4 SENIOR COMPETITION CLASSES AND GRADE
Open Solo May be divided into Expert, A, B, C, and clubman

Therefore you can divide Open Solo into Expert, A, B, C, and clubman at the Aus Titles event.

The rules as they stand currently are open for interpretation however. You could say as Twinshock200 has that 20.1 refers to the classes allowed in an Australian titles.
This begs the question what are the rules for Post Classic as 20.1 does not suggest any and there are no rules anywhere else in the moms except 20.4.
It also asks the question if 20 'C grade' riders enter Solo and 20 'Expert' riders enter do you need half the sections to be of 'C grade' level and half the sections to be of an 'expert' level to comply with the below rule.

20.0.0.1 Promoters must ensure that the standards of sections must provide for all levels of competitor in each class.

Sorry peterw and kurt you still haven't made me change my mind.
When MA puts in a list of grades that are under the heading of "Categories for Senior Australian Trials Championships" thats exactly what it applies to and nothing else.
20.4 applies to any other Senior event, Club, Interclub or Open events.
Perhaps the way to clear this up is for one of the Trials Commission officials to explain it.

Clubs don't run the Aus Titles, the Trials Commission and the appropriate State Trials Sub Committee run it with the voluntary help of local club members

This all adds to my decision being the correct one and which appears at the bottom of this post.

2017 MOMS Changes – A Fantastic Opportunity !
There are changes to the Official MA Australian Championship Classes offered. There are omissions and inclusions that at first sight seem confusing.

If I understand the current changes to the 2017 MOMS correctly............
The only effect of this is that the official MA Australian Championship Classes listed attract a MA Medallion as well as a Trophy.
Importantly - the 2017 MOMS have also been changed so that “Support Classes” can be run at the Australian Championships. (See TL630 below)
So the organising club can run “Support Classes” for whatever Class they like and award a trophy only.
Eg Currently Masters will not be run as an Australian Championship Class in 2017, but could be run as a “support class” and be awarded trophies (but not a MA Medallion).

The same applies to the other classes that look like they have been eliminated like Veterans age groups 40-49, 50-59, 60plus. If the organising club want to include them as a “Support Class” they could still be run and trophies awarded. Note “Masters Women Class” has already been offered.

I agree Masters and Veterans would be best left as a Championship Class as they are well supported each year, but at least they can be Support classes if MA will not change back.

The Fantastic Opportunity is...........
The Trials Commission are keen for the Australian Championships to be more inclusive (See TL630 below)
The organising club could take this opportunity to run a “Support Class” for a group of riders previously excluded from competing at Australian Championships – 22 to 35 Year old male riders on modern bikes. Previously unless this age group were competing in Expert Class they could not compete. I predict this would be a very popular “Support Class”.

This would provide the organising club with a boost in riders and make the Australian Championships more inclusive. It would give the organising club more entry money to pay for the event. It would encourage this age group to remain in the sport and improve their skills, with some eventually riding at Expert Level. It could be called Solo B Class

Expert Class determines the Australian Champion, these riders are the cream of the crop, but Expert Class numbers to be boosted.
The inclusion of a class for the pool of 22 to 35 year old riders who are potential Expert riders , but not quite at that standard yet, would eventually generate more Experts.

The omissions and inclusions in 2017 MOMS may be explained by some of the comments in the Trials Commissioners Meeting Minutes of March this year, http://www.ma.org.au/fileadmin/user_upload/Documents/Commissions___Committees/2016_Commission_Minutes/Trial_April_2016.pdf

- ITEM TL626 has these comments “TC is invested in continuing the growth in women's Trial, and will look at initiatives to support women and junior women in Trial.”

- ITEM TL628 has these comments “TC recommend phasing out of some Australian Championship classes for 2017. Australian championship status to be retained for classes in which there is regular competition through-out the year, and across a wide section of the country.
20.1 (Table) (Classes Phased out if struck out below)
Solo,
Sidecar,
Classic,
Post Classic,
Youth,
Veteran 40 years+ Age Groups,
Masters,
Women,
Air Cooled Mono Shock.
National Championship status requires there to be regular competition in the class across the country throughout the year.
Non-championship classes are to be allowed at Australian Championships to cater for riders not wishing to ride a championship class but still participate in national title meetings.”

- ITEM TL629 has these comments “As per direction of MA across all discipline, TC recommend that Junior National Championships will not be awarded for riders under 12”

- ITEM TL630 has these comments “Allowing support classes at Australian championships is the opportunity for hosts to attract larger entries to make events more viable. Support classes offer more riders the opportunity to participate in the national title meeting, making the nationals more inclusive. Riders will not be forced into Championship classes for a single event to be part of the Aussie titles.”

This might be enough to get Roger to invest in another MA licence ????

It seems l was correct in my interpretation Mr twinshock200.
The TA article by MA and new classes is explained and will be added to this year's Aussie titles.
It's about time that anybody over 21 and can't do "open solo" can now ride their modern bikes.

We were both correct Mr peterW.
I was right in saying they are no longer Aussie Championship grades.
You were right in saying they can be support grades.
It will be interesting to see how many entries in;
Women over 40
Classic sidecar
and 4 - 9 year olds the SA titles receive.

Motorcycling Australia contradict themselves when they say,
"The overarching objective is for the Australian Championship status to be retained for classes in which there is regular competition through-out the year." ,,,,,, can anyone tell me when there has been a "regular" level of sidecar entries in any events for the last three years,,,,, but they leave the Championship sidecar grade in place, I wonder why ??

Both Western Australia and South Australia have regular classes of Sidecars.

Good to hear they are out and about over there Pa.
They are as rare as hens teeth this side of the country.

It doesn't explain why the TC forgot about the comment in their meeting minutes that, quote " National Championship status requires there to be regular competition in the class, across the country, throughout the year"

Nothing against the noble art of riding sidecar outfits but whats good for one should apply to others in the same boat.

I just received this email, which may be relevant if anyone feels strongly enough to submit a rule change proposal:

Rule change submissions now due for 2018

Rule change submissions now due

January 10, 2017

Motorcycling Australia (MA) would like to advise that rule change submissions for the 2018 Manual of Motorcycle Sport (MoMS) must be received by Friday 03 March.
The Manual contains the General Competition Rules, which govern the participation and conduct of Motorcycle Sport in Australia. Changes are sometimes made to these rules to make competition easier or fairer, to reflect changes in technology or equipment, or to make the meaning of the rules clearer.

Clubs, State Controlling Bodies and MA Members are welcome to submit suggestions for amendments to existing rules, and suggestions for the addition of new rules, to help make the sport better for our competitors.

Submissions must be completed on the official Rule Change Form and returned to Nicole Van der Sant via email at rules@ma.org.au no later than the 3rd of March 2017 to be considered. Submissions will be forwarded to the relevant Commission & Committees for consideration.

Click here to download a copy of the 2017 Rule Change Form

To find out more about the Rule Change process or to submit feedback, please visit the MoMS section of the website. Any questions or concerns can be directed to Nicole Van der Sant via email at rules@ma.org.au or by calling 03 9684 0512.

Here is my attempt at Australian trials rules.

Can you ask MA to just adopt your Moms as a rule change proposal? :D
