Starting out in the Junior grades...

Postby KTMSprocket » Wed Dec 14, 2011 8:42 pm

Hi Guys...

Can anyone point me to a good site, document or place where I can get an idiots guide to competing in trials (juniors)?

In particular I'd like to know:

Age/class structure for Juniors
Bike sizes/capacity rules for each class
Usual equipment needs (mandatory and recommended)
Highly active trials clubs in NSW and their calendars

Any help would be really useful...many thanks.

Note: We ride enduro at state level so we are used to supp regs, GCRs and so on. 8-)

We are in Sydney.

So we buy a bike,
whack on a helmet,
pull on some boots,
turn up,
start engine
and
fall off.

Too easy!

:-)

Hi Mate

It's nearly that simple - I'm assuming if you’re riding Enduro you already have MA licences - for the Junior - Junior licences and Log Books are mandatory including 5 hours coaching per year – send me PM with your phone number and I’ll give you a call to talk it through if you like.

Junior/Youth Classes for 2012 are as follows:

Youth 16 – 21 years of age
Junior Open – 13 - 15 years of age riding up to 200cc
Junior Woman7 -15 riding up to 200cc
Junior 7 -12 - Riding sub 200cc Bikes

For 2013 on - it's likley all juniors will be restricted to 125cc so keep that in mind.

Helmets, Boots, Shirts and Pants (and gloves highly recommended) are all in the GCR’s link here
http://www.ma.org.au/fileadmin/user_upl ... Trials.pdf

For clubs – the most active clubs are Pacific Park – Wollongong – Manly and Trials Club of Canberra .

Most weekends you’ll find a bunch of trials riders at Pacific Park in South Maroota near Windsor – they charge a one day entry fee.

The provisional Calender for 2012 is here:

If your looking for bikes and gear -Paul Arnott at The Hell Team http://www.thehellteam.com/ and Don Murray at Moto Central http://www.motocentral.com.au/ will help - there both really good guys.

Most newcomers start in the Clubman class - good for the Juniors – You might want to step up to C grade pretty quicky.

If you need any more just drop me a line – I can guarantee you and the youngsters will have a ball and welcome to the ‘Club’

Best regards

Paul Mac

Paul. Many Thanks.

That puts us (him) in the Junior Open 13 to 15 (he now has a nice little Sherco 125).

Through Enduro/MX he also has a 125cc endorsement on his licence if that helps....and we have enough riding gear to keep a decent bike shop in stock for a year (another by product of riding the enduro series).

We would definitely start in the lowest class and see how we go!!!!

Just remember that flexibility is a must on a trials bike. Motorcross/enduro gear especially boots can be heavy and limit movement/flexibility. Many trials boots could double as hiking boots they are that comfortable! Also, an open faced helmet is a good idea to reduce heat due to the slow speeds.

cheers
