I'm wondering if there are any amputee trials riders on this forum?
My 8 year old stepson has a congenital below knee amputation. I'm looking to get him onto a motorcycle, and a trials bike seems the most appropriate. If I can get him interested in the idea of competition he will learn a lot of other imprortant skills as well.
I was looking at a TY80 on eBay, but was pipped on that one. Something that size is probably what he needs. He wears a prosthetic left leg, and his uncle and I, both motorcyclists, think he might be able to use a rocker shift with practice.
We're near Lismore in NSW. Any advice on clubs or events near us? I'm guessing SQTA is our closest club.
I haven't ridden trials myself but have always been interested. If I can get him motivated I will certainly take it up myself, presumably in a twin-shock old-bugger class. And then I'd need a bike too...

Skippy
I do know of one rider on this forum who lost his left foot in a road bike accident and has adapted his Gas Gas
to enable him to continue riding.
Perhaps better that you give me a call, rather than me broadcast those details.
A year ago my father had a stroke whick knocked out reliable control of his left leg. I have adapted the gear change on
his quad bike and he happily rides it around the farm.

Thanks Alastair. Will be in touch when it cools down a little.
