Never go out without a tool kit
Pump
Cable ties
Puncher repair kit
Chain master links
Nylon tape
Allen key multi kit with chain breaker.
Small leatherman
Clean rag

All in a zip lock bag covered in a layer of nylon tape to make it rock resent

Add cable ties to a drink holder

Two layers of double sided tape just to help hold it in place as there aren't any mounting holes where I'm going to put this

The top cable tie goes round just above the bottom drink bottle mount on the other side to stop it slipping down.

After a bit of testing just one round the top seems to hold it in pace better.

The motor is limited to spin at the crank at 160 rotations per minute. This is to fast for my legs to keep up with so peddling becomes purely an option till the steepest of hills in low gear. Because it's geared for hills it tops out at 45kph. An easy way to make my legs spin faster is to shorten the crank arms.
The new crank arms are 150mm long which is 20mm shorter than normal ones. This may not seem like much but it really makes a difference in how fast my feet have to travel round for a given rotation speed.

I can get crank arms that get shorter by 20mm increments till only 75mm long.

The trail tires are going to ware out before the bike is ready for the bush. There are still a few problems gearing.

So it's used as a commuter I commute on a regular bike 30km round trip five times a week so on the weekends I can take the bike. There is aleays stuff going on in the city on the weekends.

Peddling is a option

It's narrower.

The construction feels like a very light construction motorcycle road tyre
image.png
image.png (1.74 MiB) Viewed 16585 times

Has a lower profile.
image.png
image.png (1.77 MiB) Viewed 16585 times

The profile is round enough. The drop off from the edge of the thread is massive. So if you stay on that profile and have to push it in a corner you could lean in a bit.

The braking capacity exceeded the previous tyres so take this.
image.png
image.png (1.64 MiB) Viewed 16585 times

Looks like a flat top hair cut.
The tyre was made for a 70mm and smaller rim. Now of a fat bike 80mm rim it's opend the profile

The side walls are 5mm wider than the outside of the rim so the bead is still in. This means even though the profile is changed it will still work as a tyre.

To ride that tyre hard you are going to have to be a bit flexible.

Start with 15psi which is minimum preasure I think

Sometimes when you go off a gutter or footpath to hard there is a clunking sound. I suspect it's the batteries jumping within its own case.
So worth a tri is to loosen the top strap off.

Make something like this up

And bottom one.

Unfortunaliyni think a little worse. Not that it's ever a problem. I will run down the drive and hit the gutter to hard and it jumps.
Back off a bit and you never hear it again.

I'm going to have to do some revisiting.

Last wide open throttle run WOT a strange thing happend

Conditions;
Cooler so going to run leaner (sharper power) I don't change the main jet so one jet does all.
Humid, could be good.
Could start with a cold setting of 1/8 turn anticlockwise on the air jet and come back to where it is when hot. Dident end up doing that as when running on last rides hot setting it ran fine. No indication of anything.
WOT sixth gear spinning the back wheel up a hill on a dirt road @ about 160kpa around 10,000rpm with a water temp around 90c and rising. Usually on one of those runs when I stop there is heavy smoke coming off the pipe. One time it set a carbon fire in the exhaust which took a while to burn out.
I'm not jetting by plug chop as I feel I know where it is. Haven't looked or change a plug for some time. And it was running lean not out of range lean more crisp lean. If I ever take it out and it feels out of the range lean then I won't do a WOT run, keep in the bottom end most of the time which is where I usually am.
And it cut like a rev limiter. Pulled the clutch rolled down let it out in 5th gear at the bottom of the power band and opend it up. The motor idled while I slowed down so why not.
Worked like usual and took it to WOT in sixth and slowed down and stopped. As usual it was smoking.
The others took suprisingly long time to arrive we chatted and took off up the steeper hill. Started it When I took off I gaving it to it. First wheel spin second it bites and takes off the front comes up like a road bike so I hold it at about 20cm off the road then came down on its own when it got close to tyre speed. Dident do much with third as it was already to fast.

Thought about it and couldent cum up with a definitive answer so consorted the orical. "Heat seize, you will find scratches on the piston" but it just cut like spark could have drained the float bowl. "heat seize your making power. If it sezes after 2km of that then it's to lean" so it's it's like a type of flash heat seize.
These runs are two or three short bursts, keep it in the powerband speed but slow to the bottom range and give it to her under load. and it sings.

Good thing is it rides like it never Happend

For a while I couldent work out how to mount the motor cut out sensor for the new front brake.

The sensor sits on the master cilinder ok with some double sided tape, after a while I will remove the cable tie and it should sit there just fine.
The magnetic washer on the other hand was a problem. It will sit ok with double sided tape but there was no way of making it secure. One brush and it would be gone.

I look at that mountain every day

One of the goals of this bike is to ride to the water resevour behind that mountain then to the top and look back. Ride back with charge to spare.

To day is a scouting run. With the road tyers on I will just do a lap of the reserve and come back to see what's left in the tank.

On the bridge looking back.

So up the back of that.

image.png (2 MiB) Viewed 11859 times

Still says 100% some thing must be wrong! I have stuck to my strategy of limiting it to 30% power but still it should have registered by now. I don't have much experience at 30% drain. It's a V8 and generally don't use the peddling option.

This would be the point to enter the catchment area.

There are no singes but that gate says enough.

I saw a glimpse of 98% so will take it as a questionable but valid reading. If that's so then I have enough to go unrestricted.

I have justified my foot print as nearly non existent. With wide large road tirs there is little grip. It can't grip much more than weight over a flat smooth area.
The Eco friendly baby bum tyers roll gently.

Number two was fatege and bad judgement. I had to walk up most of that mountain. Luckily there is a button on the thumb operated control panel. while heald down will slowly walk the bike

I did learn a few things like the speed you go up a hill is about the same speed you can go down it. If you have to walk it up then you will walk it down.
I went unrestricted V8 all the way home and still had about 1/3 left.

it's time to have a look in there. Take it out and give it a good scrub and nothing looks out of place.

First look at the plug for a long time and it looks about right. Not that much carbon build up and On the rich side which is expected seeing how it's mostly ridden in the low to mid range. Could possibly change the needle one clip leaner?
image.jpeg
image.jpeg (1.35 MiB) Viewed 10966 times

No fraying on the reed tips which means they are seating well and not touching anything. That black carbon build up is interesting and don't know what it means. It wipes off easly so will just note it for now.
image.jpeg
image.jpeg (1.09 MiB) Viewed 10966 times

No air gaps so they are seating well and not being bent to much which is what you would expect with twice as many reeds to do the same job. Each does not have to bend as much. All my little mods seem not to have effected there longevity which is what you would expect as the actual seating part was never changed.

Quickie glance in there and the Devcon is still where I put it. Further in its all washed clean with out any discolouration so plenty of movement.
