I know nothing about Bing carbies, but have been trying to educate myself on them lately via google, I still know nothing other than where I might get some replacement parts from.
Basically I have a soon to arrive(maybe tomorrow) 325cc '76 Sherpa T (183) which has a non std carb fitted and I want to fit an original T84 28mm Bing. I have bought a used one from flea-bay for/from a Sherpa apparently, but it needs a complete refurb.
What jetting/slide etc would people recommend please.

I don't recall anyone, me included, that changed jets on the Bing back in the day, so whatever is in the Bultaco manual would be correct I would guess.

Thanks, yeah I'll just go with the manual recommendations, but the pilot size is non-committal stating 35 - 65 in the manual.
The ebay carb has a #45 pilot fitted which might be fine I suppose, but its needle is a # 2 and slide is a # 0 whereas the manual states a # 1 needle and # 5 slide but anyone could have made these changes over the years for whatever reasons.
I'll play it safe and order slide and jets as per the manual with maybe a couple of different pilot sizes either side of 45.
What was the general consensus on the Bing back in the day, were they ok on the Sherpa's ?

Hi Rod. The Bing is a good carby but the slides and needles and needle jets wear out very quickly. This is the main failing of them. They are better than the Amals. I can have a look in a Bing on Saturday and let you know the pilot jet size. I have three to choose from. Two are on bikes, a M199A, M199B and I have one off a M199 or a M159. I can`t remember which one it was off now. I have OKOs on all of mine. The new slides you will have to file the cutout to suit as you can only get a 0 slide now. I answered you on TA as well. Graham.

Cheers Graham, filing a "0" slide to a "5" profile is gunna be a problem since I don't have a # 5 slide to use as a template.
Don't worry about pulling carbs apart to check pilot sizes, I'll figure it out through trial and error. Thanks anyway.
I might need some help with that slide however.
PS: I'm still trying to find out whether the people I've been talking to in the US(I think) via email have any suitable slides, I've just sent them micrometer pics of the slide and bore as they requested but usually only get their response at 2 or 3 am, they seem to be aware of the Spanish Bing oddities.

My 199A manual
Pilot 40
Main 123
needle jet 273
needle 1 -2nd pos
slide 5
Most metric carbs measure the slide cutaway in mm's - so 5 equals 5mm
Cheers Greg

The problem here that has been discussed before many times is that its expensive to recon the old Amals and Bings and they wear out slides, needles and needle jets reasonably quickly. Fitting a Keihin [or the OKO copy] will give a performance increase and more than likely cost less and not be prone to wearing out. Mikunis and Dellortos are also good options.

The Bing for my 183 has the same as Greg’s 199a manual specs
The needle is marked 6G1

Re: Bing carb for 1976 mod 183 Sherpa T.
I had a look at the old pilot jet out of my Bing today. It is from my M199 and I also had a look in both the owners manuals for the M159 and the M199. The only difference was the 159 had a 125 main in it whereas the M199 has a 123 main. They all had 40 pilots in them. They also both had a 273 needle jet in them from new. It didn`t say what the needle was and I couldn`t read anything on the old one I have. That one I have is off the M199 as it had a 123 main jet in it.
