Problems fitting rear brake hydraulic pressure switch - ST 250 (2018)

Postby Gerald » Mon Apr 09, 2018 1:44 pm

I’m trying to fit a hydraulic pressure switch to the rear brake system of a Sherco trials bike. I’ve got the recommended switch which as expected does match up with the master cylinder. My problem is that that with the new switch fitted the master cylinder can’t be refitted back into it’s intended mounting point.

The master cylinder with the new switch is now too long to fit back into a recessed section of the frame.

Clearance between the frame and swing arm is really tight.

The swing arm has a recessed channel which allows it to pass around the master cylinder when it (the swing arm) is in motion. It looks to me that if I tried to modify the mounting point of the master cylinder it will snag the swing arm. This won’t be good!

I know this configuration of pressure switch and master cylinder has been used extensively on trail registration lighting kits.

I thought that the 2018 ST may have had a change made from previous models to the frame around the mounting point, but from what I can tell they appear to be the same.

I’ve ended up with what should have been a really easy simple task becoming an absolute nuisance. Has anyone out there had experience in doing this sort of installation and if so was the solution?

Cheers

Gerald

Get the hose modified. Fit the switch wherever you want then. Wont matter where its fitted in the system. The hydraulic pressure is the same throughout (Pascal's Law)

Hi TrialTech,

Excellent idea and suggestion.

Thank you very, very much, I know what I’m doing tomorrow!
