Re: Air leak from spokes
Richard,
I've just had similar dramas.
First off, if you ever take a trials (tubeless) wheel to a motorcycle shop DO NOT let them touch the valve stem.
I've had Gas Gas bikes with tubeless rims since '96 & never had a problem as I always did the tyre changes myself.
Little while ago I was running short of time so I dropped my wheel into a bike shop to get the tyre turned around.
The guy loosened off the valve stem (as you would with any TUBE type wheel).
This disturbed the valve stem in the rim tape (tore a little bit out of it).
So $30+ for a new rim tape & did it myself.
The Montesa (Honda) bikes have a rim that doesn't use a rim tape, as do the new Gas Gas Raga replica's.
I've also heard on the grapevine that the 2009 Gas Gas bikes have a new rim tape with the valve molded into it.
I also keep a small Co2 cylinder inflater in my bum bag if I get any slow leaks through the day.

Gary
All new Morad rims exported from June 08 now have the rim band with a "moulded in" valve stem. Morad rims are standard fitment on Scorpa and Sherco as well.

Re: Air leak from spokes
I have been through this process myself and found the best metod to be using soggy soap ( the stuff soap turns to when the kids have left it in the bath ). It causes no damage to alloy or rubber. I did mine a year or two ago and it has been fine.
