2t Sherco exhaust

Postby Ian43ktm » Mon May 05, 2014 4:49 pm

I think my 290 exhaust may be a bit clogged. I've tried flushing with petrol and I think that has helped but I was wondering if you can burn them out. I don't think they can be pulled apart and repacked. Has anyone done this or know another way to clear it?

you need something stronger than petrol to get the goo out. I've heard that bike shops use a tank of special solvent.
If it's aluminium like I suspect, burning it out would melt the casing. Steel (old bikes) trials exhausts are OK for burning out, but you still need to cut them open and repack afterwards because the mineral fibre packing melts during the process

Thanks David . I did worry about the heat damaging the aluminium exhaust. I thought as it was a sealed unit it may have baffles in the form of plates with holes in or pipes going from one chamber to another. Seems silly to put fiberglass packing in if you can't replace it easily......Ian

Hi Ian, did you find something to clear out your pipe?
I would like to clear mine out too. The alloy has me weary too.
