TY250 mono sprockets info

Postby typarts-aus » Tue Oct 21, 2014 7:34 pm

Hi guys, I have just bought a 1986 ty250 mono, 53y engine number prefix. It's a Japanese model and has a sprocket combination of 14F and 42R and is quite high for trials work. I havent come across a larger rear sprocket, only smaller front. Would a 11 or 12t cause excess chain wear and would a 10t be more practical. Also any infor on this model would be appreciated.

Most people stick with the standard rear sprocket size and fit smaller fronts. It's personal taste which size front you use. No worries with wear in trials use using a 10T front with the 520 chain if you want it that slow. Yes it would wear the chain and front sprocket fast if you do road riding with a 10T front

a friend of mine only ever rode sections in third gear on one of those bikes, and used the clutch in turns. He might have had a 10T front, not sure.
The standard motor has a very narrow powerband (all at the bottom) so the gearing is important
