Knee exercises

Postby dad » Wed Jul 02, 2008 6:59 pm

Anyone know of some good knee exercises to help prevent injuries and strains.

And lets not forget warm ups and stretches.

thanks

Peter

As post knee opp furniture removalist, I can offer the following advice.
Its not all to do with how much strain you put on your knees on the day of trials riding but how much strain you place on a weekly/monthly basis.
I would recommend not to ever stand with your knees locked out, but to stand with your knees very slightly bent. use this method all of the time and I think you will find that the joint will become stronger and therefore less prone to injury in the first place. Also perhaps take up swimming to strengthen the joints without putting strain on them.
I have used these methods for years and have not had any problems since my opp.

I AM NOT A PHYSIO OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THIS IS JUST WHAT WORKED FOR ME.

Would sitting against a wall without a chair, be a good knee exercise. Has been used by skiers for years to strengthen legs/thighs.

knees giving you a bit of trouble are they?

Squats are a pretty good way to strengthen your knees. I think it's more so a preparation thing, rather than a fix on the day type of thing. If you can do some squats a few times a week it'd help a lot. Take it easy on the knees, but do 3 sets of however many feels comfortable each time you work them out. Should find it improves your knees ability to take a load on them.

Sorry 'bout the rehash. Just dscovered the thread and a slow day on the forum.

Yep, knees are a bit knackered, too many board stacks (Dirtsurfer, Wheelman). I also got pole vaulted off one on a DRZ trail ride a few years ago, it's been temperamental since.

Tried the braces for a few trail rides, but didn't like the feel. So just working on strengthening them. They don't limit my performance as much as my left index finger and lack of skills.

well strengthening the knees might be a quicker way to get results than the process of increasing the skill level!

Depending on your agility level try jumping too. I used to play basketball quite a bit and as a good drill to strengthen and knees and your leg muscles, if you squat down and then explode up on the spot it's a great way to increase the strength of your knees. Just make sure you concentrate on jumping straight up and not going off on angles to get the right results.

hi all
i snapped the knee some years ago and cant run, and find it hard to walk up & down hills without pain in the knee but what i got was a knee brace made out of the same stuff that wet suits are made off (nice and thick)with a hinge in it so you cant hyper extend (got them from the uk some years ago)
i can now go in the bush all day standing up on the drz and i used them for trials

i can say they work 100% for me

all the best micd

What brand of braces are they?
