Question for Keith J ??

Postby Trango » Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:28 pm

I was wondering with the update to the layout of the website if the grading system for forum contributors was going to change. There are already a fair number of members who reguarly post on the forums and soon most of will be "A grade" or "Basically lives here". Looking at forums on other sites the long time members have post in the many thousands. Do we need to increase the number of posts for the grading system :?: Maybe something along these lines.
0-49 Junior
50-124 C Grade
125-249 B Grade
250-499 A Grade
500-999 Expert
1000+ Basically lives here

As a recent A grader I think that would be a bad Idea, espesialy if you look at the rubish I wrote for my last few posts just to get to 100. ( it's my first real achevment in life , now let me bask in the glory ).

On a serious note how about an A+ for 200 or more. ( please sir don't take away my grade A ).

Cheers Gordo

It is so sad to see that so many of us place so much importantence on our recorded gems of wisdom. I also aspire to the lofty hight of 100 posts. :P SO PLEASE DON'T MOVE MY GOAL POST. :( :(

But think of the number of times we come to this site and just read without posting. I could be number one "LURKER" if we had a means of recording each visit to the site. Please give this some thought instead. 8)

Starky, to be a proper lerker wouldn't you have to have no posts at all?

And lets face it, there is no true measure here, only comparison.
So if there is to be a change in the scoring system how about as I said previously. Set targets for the High score people and leave the below 100's alone ( also you must agree, someone who has posted more than 50 posts is pretty serious about contributing).

How about this, all scores below 100 posts remain the same, then 150 posts + get A+, then A+ bronze, then A+ silver, then A+ Gold, then A+ platinum, and on and on.

Cheers Gordo

New rank added - "Champion" at 500 posts.

That makes:
Junior - 1
C grade - 20
B grade - 50
A grade - 100
Expert - 200
Champion - 500

Gives you something to aim for! :D

So what is it with trials riders and their obsession with scores, and points?

I go in some competitions and get lots of points. Sometimes I get lots and lots and lots of points, but I still never seem to get any prizes, no matter how huge a collection of points I can amass.

Maybe it shouldn’t so much be the quantity, but the quality that counts. I’ve seen various sites that have a reputation points score, generally based on points or votes of appreciation from other users. If you find a particular post interesting, or humourous, or helpful, or worthy of appreciation you simply tick a box, and this adds to that poster’s reputation.

(just a comment, not necessarily a serious suggestion)
