Peter Paice Replica TY250 twinshock

Postby David Lahey » Tue Apr 28, 2009 10:00 pm

Back when the Yamaha TY175 and TY250 were at the peak of their remarkable popularity, Peter Paice was the Aussie rider most strongly associated with the Yamaha brand in trials competition.
Peter was featured in many ADB magazine articles, won State and National trials titles and even competed in the SSDT, supported by Yamaha.
While his TY175s were standard apart from having Renthal bars, better shockies and tyres, some of his TY250s had some more serious mods to make them easier to ride in high level competition. One of his twinshock TY250s was a favourite and my plan is to make a replica of that favourite.
Here is a picture of Peter's "best ever" TY250. There are a few obvious differences to a standard TY250 like the muffler and the laid forward shockies. Kudos to anyone who can pick the non-obvious, but important, modification.

Hi David
Looks like where the toolbox used to reside between the two front downtubes on the frame has been replaced with a large brace.
Kinda regret selling all my TYs last year! Otherwise I could have gone and had a look.

Just my 2 cents worth.....or was that 1 cent???!!!

What's the go where the oil pump used to be is that a weight off the crank or our my eyes playing tricks on me.
Looks like a JC silencer I remember getting hit in the forehead with one of these when the front wheel stopped and me and the rest of the bike didn't.

It's a trick of the light - there really is a normal oil pump cover
