South Australian Women's Cup

Postby outfit65 » Sat Jul 04, 2009 10:12 am

THE KEYNETON MCC ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE A ‘REVAMPED’ 2 DAY MOTO TRIAL FOR 2009, TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 12 & 13 IN THE BAROSSA REGION.

It would be proposed to run all grades as per normal, with a half day ride on Saturday and a full day ride on the Sunday. The exception to this would be the sidecar and women’s classes who would have a full days ride both days.

However, if all riders can supply a competent observer for the Saturday, then it would become an all day ride for the other grades as well.
On the Sunday the Keyneton MCC would supply the observers.

Riding times would be as per normal on the Saturday (10.00am – 1.00pm & 1.30pm – 4.30pm), but on Sunday it would be from 9.00am – 1.30pm, with no lunch break. Presentations would then take place at 2.00pm, allowing all riders to head for home at a reasonable time.

If the right property can be found, and the land owner is in favour, then camping would be allowed and encouraged, and the Keyneton MCC would cater the event as well. The Keyneton MCC would also supply lunch to the observers on both days (subject to Saturday being an all day ride)

The introduction of the South Australian Women’s Cup follows the same course that has been taken in the eastern states for the last 6 – 8 years in promoting women in moto trials. With this in mind the women’s classes for this event run the same as the Australian Women’s Cup and it is hoped that new SA riders will give the sport a try and some interstaters will travel over the border to have a ride.

Being so close to the 2009 Trials des Nations, which is a week later, the top 3 women riders in Australia would definitely be unavailable if Australia sends a women’s team in 2009, but far from being a drawback, it does give other women around Australia a chance to compete for and maybe win, what could become one of the major trophies for women to chase in Australia.

The Trial was great.

There where 4 women competing and as many riding in the non competitive group. Angela Sophios came down from Queensland and rode a borrowed bike, kindly loaned from Alex Turner who switched to a Sidecar for the Diener / Holmes Sidecar Trophy class. Three local women rode Elyse Arnold, Tyler Hogan and Sharon Warnest from the Motorcycling SA office making her Moto Trials debut.

Video's to follow tonight.

Thanks to the Keyneton Club for organizing this trial.

Hi Bev,

Except for the weather not being the best - hot & windy on Saturday and blew a gale on Sunday the event went off really well.

We had 7 girls riding and 1 officiating (Race Sec), and all enjoyed the weeknd, or told me they did!
Angela had a tough weekend riding Masters, on a strange bike, but she toughed it out and very deservedly took out the Masters Class and the overall. Seems north QLD don't set sections the same as us and we also have heaps of moss rocks, which are a lot different to QLD rocks! Saturdays hot and dry conditions also took its toll a bit as Angela suffered a lot of cramping - SA's weather, like our rocks, being very different to north QLD. Having said that it was fantastic that she made the journey down, and trials is definately better with Angela in it, and we all hope to see her back in SA soon.
Elyse and Tylor had a close battle on day 1 in the Novice Class, but on day 2 Elyse had a pearler and won comfortably. Seems riding with the boyfriend has helped as he has just started riding and she doen't want to get beaten by him! Elyse also said that it was great that there is now another Women's Cup, especially for 'poor' Uni students that can't get to Canberra.
Sharon was the only other girl on an open licence, and was a rookie to moto trials. On Saturday she really struggled at the start, with a few crashes really denting her confidence, but then she got a lot of help, advice and encouragement from everybody and by the end of day 1 was looking quite good. On day 2 she rode brilliantly to only finish about 5 points behind Tylor for the day.
Robyn Evans was the other senior rookie, but rode on a rec licence and had an absolute ball on an old TY175. The improvement over the 2 days was there for all to see and she was literally jumping out of her skin at presentation!
We also had 2 juniors have a ride, both on rec licences, Heather Button & Claire Neal. Heather rode a Pee Wee 80 and showed enough to suggest that she could do very well in trials, as did Claire Neal who was riding a Gassa 50. Hopefully these 2 will be regular competitors next year, as might Sharon who is talking about buying a bike after borrowing one for the weekend.

So all in all it was a good weekend, and we would definately like to build on this for 2010 and make it bigger & better. Now we just have to wait for the 2010 Aussie Titles date to be set and then we can finalise our calender to suit.

Hope to see you over here next year Bev, and thanks for the inspiration to get this off the ground in SA.

Cheers
Andrew
