Yamaha TW 200 project!!

Postby slinky » Wed Apr 18, 2012 12:12 am

I'm new to the site and have just bought a stock 2001 Yamaha TW200. My mate and I have just began to start pulling it apart and hopefully get it customised into a cool flat tracker style bike in the next few months. Will post photos of progress. Hopefully anyone else whose done one of these restorations can provide feedback of things they came across with the bike in general or cool places to shop for parts etc, feel free to drop in. Can't wait to get it on the road.
Enjoy

My Yamaha TW 200 jacked up on a trusty milk crate.

Coming apart piece by piece. Previous owner hadn't ridden her for over a year. WD40 got a good work out.

Headlight, seat, tail light, indicators and speedo all taken off. Small amounts of rust here and there becoming visible. Should be fine after I take the heinous blue paint off her and sand blast the frame. Any recommendations for sand blasting frames would be appreciated as I've never done it before.

Some pretty awkward screws in awkward places made getting battery and holder out an interesting experience. The seized up bolts didn't help.

Just to make sure we know where that 'little black cable' goes when we put it all back together. We're making sure to mark everything we take apart to avoid confusion.

Engine's out. Needs a good clean up and some general TLC. Thinking black paint and red Yamaha Symbol for the paint job of the engine. (Making sure the exhaust line doesn't get clogged with any dust or unwanted creepy crawlies make sure to stuff some old cloth, rag etc in the pipeline)
