Importing a motorcycle

Postby whitehillbilly » Tue Nov 20, 2012 9:01 pm

I was looking for a 250 road bike to run to work and back, so Dad offered me his 'old' 1977 Honda CJ250T, which he won,in 77, in an, Isle of Man TT, raffle. Buying only one ticket, at the grand cost of 25 pence.
In 35 years it has been registered,on and off, but only has 9,000 miles, ( 15,000 klms ) on the clock, and has had regular services and oil changes. Atleast I know all the History of this bike, it was even run in as per the book. He also had his Triumph Tiger 90 350 restored to original condition, I uses it, when its not raining 8)
Anyone give me any hints on importing, as things seem to have changed a bit since I imported my Greeves in 1996.
I see they have a pre 1989 scheme ???? any ideas on this ????

Hi There, There is a mob called Classic Style Australia down here in Seaford Vic and the guy who runs it is named Jonny Munn. He does provide an importing service from UK for bikes as he brings in container loads of old bikes from UK for resale here at his business anyway. His phone number is 03 9773 5500. It might be worth getting a quote from him. There is likely to be others around as well. Getting a firm to do it all for you would be more expensive but a lot less hassle I suspect.
Regards Geoff Lewis.
