TY250 mono grey import

Postby keychange » Sat Feb 01, 2014 7:20 pm

I have been giving a new neighbour a hand getting his 84 TY250 mono running. He bought it 10 years ago and it has sat unused for the last 9 years. It is in very good condition and I have it running very nicely, but he wants to use it as a commuter ( I know ) but it is a grey import and has no compliance plate. He bought it with the understanding that it could be registered, can anyone advise as to the chances of this in NSW.

A friend of mine went through the once-off ADR compliance process with one of those bikes in Qld and it cost about $1500 for the certification process, and additional costs for the things like road legal tyres and getting the lights working properly

Does that mean that each individual bike has to go through the process or once a model is accepted the approval

For a second-hand grey import seeking ADR approval, each bike usually gets put through an inspection/modification process by a certified (private) automotive inspector who then provides the certification plate.
I don't know if there is a system to make the ADR approval of subsequent bikes of a particular model easier or cheaper. I doubt there would be. The numbers using it would be pretty small in the scheme of things and the inspector has to process each bike anyway.

I have an 1976 TY250C # 493-101979 an a TY 175B #525-003205, can anyone tell me if they can be registered? They both have lights and speedos. Thank you.

RobbieDobbie maybe you should say what state of Australia you want to register them in. Each state has it's own system.
TY175B definitely yes for Queensland for both Historic rego and full street rego (because it is a 1975 model)
The C model TY250 was not road registerable in Queensland when it was new, but nowadays may be eligible for Historical rego
