Insurance for Trials Bikes

Postby zulujack » Wed Mar 19, 2014 12:16 am

Does anyone know about, or can anyone recommend a fire and theft type of insurance for a trials bike? I want to make sure it is covered at home or on the road.

Mines insured through Shannons on their 'laid up' cover and is covered for everything other than when it's damaged through use, including in transit or away from home.

Can't remember the cost but it is insignificant.

Thanks that's what I'm after. Tried to get a quote through their website, but apparently there is no such motorcycle as a Beta EVO!

They had a 2012 Beta EVO 300 in their system so put mine in as that, then in the details noted it was a 250. Don't think they have too many on the books.

Sounds like a call to them is the go.

Ok I've tried both InsureMyRide and Shannons. Neither of them want to touch trials bikes. What is wrong with them?

I called up both Shannons and InsureMyRide today.

I've already got a Hilux and a Mini with Shannons, they quoted me $122 laid up insurance for my 09 250cc Gas Gas, value of $5000. They said they'd only insure bikes if you're on a full unrestricted bike licence. I've got one but I questioned this, as it's off road only and not registered.

I've got my road bike with InsureMyRide, and the only option on their website for 2009 is a 280. I called them up, the guy on the phone said there's the 250cc model listed in 2008, so put it in as that, then email them to tell them it's a 2009 so they have it on record. I filled in the online quote and it came to $240, but a value of $7200.

I've not decided which way to go yet.

Have two 1970's bikes insured with Shannons for $4k each, covers everything except damage from riding (even when travelling)
Cost about $48 each - $100 excess.
I think they prefer if they are older?

I have had my trials bikes with Jardine's (JLT) Dirt Bike Insurance - now called This Dirtbike Insurance. Have had 2 Beta EVO insured with them for storage , theft and transport and now a Jotagas JT250. Maybe there is cheaper but once got through the "don't have that listed but do have a xxx listed, is that similar", then managed to find dealing with them easy enough.

I don't need help - I can fall off all by myself.
