I have just removed the oil pump from my Yamaha TY250C twin shock. In "the old days" back in the 70s we ran Castrol Super TT at 20/1 or maybe 25/1. I am told modern oils are much better and I have heard stories of people running 50/1 and even 80/1! My preference is Castrol TTS which I assume is suitable. It is synthetic of course - is this OK? and can anyone recommend a good ratio to start with. (I should add the TTS is what I have been running in the tank, so the oil I know is fine. Its the ratio that I need to confirm).
Thanks in advance
Paul

Re: TY250 fuel/oil ratio
I have been running my Ty with Klotz Techniplate 2-Stroke Oil ( the one without castor oil ) at 50 to 1 ( 2 % ) for more than 10 year without any problem. I know that many use less oil, but I like to be on the safe side.

i use Valvoline mineral oil at 50:1 in my TY250A without any trouble and have done for years.

Re: TY250 fuel/oil ratio
Nice bike
20:1 is too much TTS for an air cooled trials bike unless you are using it to commute on freeways or crossing the Simpson Desert
100:1 is too little TTS for an air cooled trials bike unless you are related to Captain Risky
The ratio you choose will be a personal decision that depends on your appetite for risk, and how you ride the bike.
TTS being fully synthetic is a good choice if you are going to ride it regularly.
If you only ride once a year and live somewhere humid, I would recommend using a semi-synthetic oil (for increased corrosion protection for the big end and mains)

Re: TY250 fuel/oil ratio
Thank you Guy, Stu and David.
I think a semi synthetic (I ride sparingly) at 50:1 sounds a good place to start. Thanks for the advice
