Re: My Montesa 349 Project
I had to contact Department of Infrastructure to find out if my bike was imported after 1990 which is when they started collecting data and ADR's wern't Law untill 1989, DIRDs on 1800 815 272 ; My bike wasn't imported after 1989 or 1990 so it doesn't have to comply with the new ADR laws. Yeah. Now I gotta get a search of QLD records.
Re: My Montesa 349 Project
hi,
I have a Ulf Karlson 1982 Montesa 349 does anyone have a picture of the correct set up of the gear selector when the bike is in neutral. the stamped marks are aligned on the selector gear, but what's the correct position of the (star plate) that sits under the roller when in neutral ?

Re: My Montesa 349 Project
Pages 2 & 3 show the photos of a 79 349 and the position of the star is the same. The selecter mechanism that hass the spring anchored is different to the later 349's 80 onward. But the star is the selector rocker thingy and sits the same. as the earlier model.

Re: My Montesa 349 Project
From what I've read on ozvmx photobucket have gone nuts, wanting something like $300 a year to allow posting on sites. They've really gone backwards this year & are going to lose a lot of business
Re: My Montesa 349 Project
So this site will be going through an upgrade or it already has? I guess I gotta start working what photo went where. Bugger.

{A kind note from Southwest Montesa
Bill,
First off, in the states, we refer to the 1st model of the 349 as a 1980 model. (the fuel tank had the fuel level indicator) the 80' model used the same shift components
as the 79' Cota 348. This had the fixed post, screwed into the case for the return spring. Very late 1980 and 81' models used the 5166.01302 plate that had a tang
that took the place of the screwed in spring post. Only other change was the shift shaft. 1980 models used the 7366.118 shaft (this is the mx shift shaft) Later models
used the 5166.118 shaft. This later shaft had the spring post hole mounted in a different spot to take in account the different spring mounting on the plate tang.
Mixing the two shafts will put the 0266.014 spring in the incorrect location to work correctly.
Later shift assemblies also used a washer (5166.138) behind the 2166.03601 shift mounting to slightly space out the shifter. Also there was a bushing (5166.137)
that went between the plate with the tang and the case. Both pictures are correct. Later models with the spring tang on the plate were mounted on top of the selector plate.
(plate with the teeth) opposite of the 1980 model. Hope this helps.}
Cheers,Jared
Very helpful fellow that Jared, what's that old saying, a picture(diagram) paints a thousand words.

Re: My Montesa 349 Project
Great posts.
Starting a rebuild of a 349 (fuel level indicator on tank series) managed to get the head off. Plenty of corrosion and engine is seized.
Will end to split case. However we have no shop manual on hand. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks sirs.
