Gas gas txt250 07 hard start

Postby Glen N » Mon Jan 07, 2019 6:25 pm

Hey all,

I just bought an 07 txt250. She’s a bit hard to start and just wanted to get some general opinions on whether this is standard before I start pulling apart.

Also wanted to check the idle and mixture screw settings.

It’s got a dellorto phbl26bs carb, does have good spark even though I notice the plug was quite black when I checked it.

What’s the general consensus, pull apart the carb and check everything or bin the carb and get an oko or something similar.

Thanks

Before changing anything, ensure you have the right technique to start it.
Gassers revolve the engine very few times per a kick start in comparison to most motorcycles.

End result is you need to deliver a very sharp jab of a kick to impart the energy to start the bike.

I have found you need to stand quite far forward of the foot pegs so you can get the leverage to deliver the hammer blow required.
Vertically challenged persons may want to stand on a brick or something to raise themselves up a bit.
From memory no throttle is required, many people automatically apply throttle as they go through the motion of kicking.

Disclaimer: Ensure you have the kickstart gear properly engaged before delivering the kick start proper, as the bike uses a quarter gear that is very easy to break.

Thanks for the replies, found the following;

Pilot was a 35
Needle was on 2nd clip
Kill switch couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be open circuit or closed circuit

Guess The hell team are getting a call tomorrow!!
