ty250 no spark

Postby tjay7 » Thu Dec 03, 2015 7:00 pm

Hi All,

I recently purchased a TY250 b as a project and have only just started playing around with it. I cant seem to get a spark and have done a few things to troubleshoot but still no luck. Carb seems clean however I think ill have to pull it apart and clean the jets.

First, tested for spark with plug earthing on the head - No sign
Second, swapped for a new spark plug - still no luck.
third, disconnected the kill switch - still noting

What is the next step, should I be pulling the flywheel cover off and check the points?

hard to say without more info about the bike, but the ignition points are a common reason for lack of spark.
You should be able to have a look at them opening and closing through the hole in the flywheel

relax, nothing is under control

Spark plug cap can break down and do often.

After having checked that the point open AND close, you can do the sand paper test: when the point are close slightly pry them open with a screw driver through a hole in the flywheel and lightly sand them with an extra fine piece of sandpaper ( I usually use a nail file ) check the sandpaper for trace of oil. Do not over sand. If you have a spark after that, it's time for new point.
