Laia Sanz is the biggest name in Women’s Trials and she’s headed to Australia as the Instructor for the FIM Women’s Trials Training Camp to be held in Sydney from 16-18 July 2011.
The 10-time FIM Trial Women’s World Champion will headline the ground-breaking event, which will see Australia host an FIM Training Camp for the first time.
On her first visit Down Under, Sanz said she looking forward to working with the next generation of Women’s Trials riders.
“I’m very excited to come to Australia and I’m looking forward working with the riders,” Sanz said.
“I know some of the girls from the Trials des Nations last year so it will be nice to come out and see them again and hopefully teach them things.”
The 25-year-old grew up in the Moto Trials heartland of northern Spain, able to compete in National and European competitions from a young age.
Recognising the geographical difficulties Australian riders face, Sanz said he hopes the Camp will benefit the participants long after she return to Spain.
“I think it’s a lot more difficult for Australian riders to compete because all the best riders in the world race in Europe, so when they come over it’s a big challenge,” she said.
“That’s why this camp is so important to help the riders.
“While three days isn’t a long time, I can help teach them a lot of things and different techniques that they can practice after the training camp.”
Despite her tender age Sanz already has a trophy cabinet unrivalled by many.
In addition to her 10 World Championships she has nine European titles, eight Spanish Championships, four Trials des Nations honours and a Dakar Rally win for good measure.
Even with all her success, Sanz still has an infectious enthusiasm for Moto Trials.
“Trials is everything I live for,” she said. “I love to train, I love the feeling of competition, I get to travel the world, it’s a real pleasure.”
The 2011 FIM Women’s Trials Training Camp will be held at Pacific Park, Sydney from 16-18 July 2011.
