WORLD Junior Trials Champion Alexz Wigg produced a paramount performance for Trials fans at the 2010 Beta Racing Extravaganza in Oakleigh, Victoria on Sunday, December 5.
Wigg put on a master class in front of a massive crowd at the specially redesigned venue at the Melbourne Moto-Trials Centre. The Englishman, who rode by invitation in the Men’s Expert Class, conquered 2.7 metre high Dylan’s Rock with relative ease. Scott Owen, of Bendigo, took out the Expert Class on 8 points, with fellow Victorian Tom Scott placing second on 10 points with third place going to Trevor Campbell on 10 points, both of whom were only separated by a half a minute time difference.
The event was extremely-well run by the organisers at the Oakleigh Motorcycle Club, who revamped the whole venue to showcase the best of the sport. The Extravaganza also exhibited a range of riders in terms of skill and age and showed just how accessible the sport of Trials really is.
Peter King, chairman of Motorcycling Victoria’s Moto-Trials Committee, was blown away by the success of the event. “Over the next five years, we want to double the number of participants in the sport in Victoria, and the event put on Sunday by the Oakleigh Motorcycle Club, was all about sparking the interest of people who might like to get involved.
“The sport of Moto-Trials is moving forwards in 2011. We have a full calendar of events lined-up for next year in Victoria, with competition lines set for all skill-levels. From sub-junior riders on mini-bikes, through to mature-age riders on modern and older machinery, and all the way up to the gun riders on the expert line, this really is a sport for everyone.
“With continued fantastic support from Motorcycling Victoria, we hope to make ongoing access to top international riders and coaches, such as Alexz Wigg, as achievable as possible for Victorian competitors, supporting another of our aggressive goals of Victorian domination of National results within five years,” added Peter.
The Extravaganza is the most ambitious event the club has sponsored for many years and it is hoped it will evolve into a permanent fixture in the Victorian motorcycling calendar. The Extravaganza will return to the Melbourne Moto-Trials Centre next year.
