Andrew Dickey clinches Victorian State Bike Trials Championships in sudden death ride-off., but Brewer wins the series.
The 2012 Victorian State Bike Trials Championships were held at the fantastic Anglesea Bike Park near Melbourne on Sunday 2nd December. A large number of riders and spectators turned up for the season closing event – and were rewarded with a challenging set of World Champs style sections, and a nail-biter of a finish!
Former world number 8, Joe Brewer and multiple Australian Championship winner, Andrew Dickey both finished the day on just 1 point (!!) - leading to a sudden death “ride-off” for the State Championship. This is not the first time these two world class riders have been forced to settle their differences by riding an entirely new section until one of them puts a foot wrong – so they are used to the pressure. In the end the pressure was too much for Brewer, who has been focusing heavily on his University studies recently. The ever-improving Nathan Mummery took out third place on 23 points, followed by Lachlan Sens on 35.
The presentation of the 2012 Victorian State Series was also held at the event – with justice being served for Brewer – taking out the series overall, with Dickey in second, and Nathan Mummery in third place. Congratulations also to Matt Harding – who took out the 2012 Victorian Elite Championship series – we look forward to seeing him in the Pro class for 2013!
The big highlight of the day was the turnout of first timers - including a swag of kids on whatever bikes they could find. The kids, and their parents appeared to really enjoy the event – and we hope to see them at more comps in the 2013 season!
