DMCC held their first twinshock trials round for the year at the Chapman’s property at Yarrawa on 14th April, with the sponsor for the trial being the Lyall family in memory of Andrew Lyall who tragically passed away in 2008.
A cold start greeted us in the morning, which quickly warmed up to a noticeable 30 degrees by midday and commented on by many of the 30 riders who turned up for the event. The flowing sections were brilliantly set-up by Harley and the Pom consisting of a mixture of rocks and loamy soil. This resulted in some interesting situations when grip was provided at the most inappropriate time. One of the greatest mental challenges for the day was remembering which track to take to get to the next section layed out on the spectacular hillside of the Chapman property.
There were a total of 5 juniors riding all sorts of twinshocks from Ty80’s to Ty175’s and a Montesa. The common bike of choice for seniors also appeared to be the TY but in most cases it was the 175. No one knows exactly where they all came from but for once they out numbered the Bultaco contingent. Some of the other bikes for the day included: Montessa, Suzuki, BSA, Triumph Cub, Italjet, Bultaco M10 and an Ossa.
The winner of A grade was Geoff, but he did pay the price for the victory with a hole in the petrol tank along with losing the exhaust silencer. The tough fight in B grade went to Brian who only edged out Greg by 2 points. The battle for B grade supremacy will be the one to watch closely throughout the year.
Terry just managed to nudge out Wal by the narrowest of margins to take victory in C grade. If Wal has the opportunity to get to a few more events this year, there is a very good chance that the tables may be turned.
Clubman had quite a number of new faces but, as always Ms Smooth convincingly won the day.
It was great to see so many juniors for the day all having a great time and showing many of the seniors how it is done. Ned narrowly nudged newcomer Marcus to take victory for the day. For his fine efforts Marcus was also awarded the Andrew Lyall memorial trophy for the most improved junior of the day.
