Well here we are! Episode 50...feels like a bit of a milestone, and as such we've lined up a milestone guest for you.
To be honest, I wasn't sure when I started this podcast where it would go, but it very proud of getting to 50 and all the great conversations we've had with members of our sport. Thank you to all our past, present and future guests but most of all thank you to our listeners. You emails and messages with suggestions and general support have been very much appreciated...so thank you to you as well.
This week we are speaking with Albert Cabestany.
How is this for a resume:
- 306 TrialGP events, 84 podiums including one on his final TrialGP event, 9 wins
- 127 Indoor Trials, 90 podiums, 18 wins, 1 championship
- Twice TrialE Champion
- 27 times on the Spanish TdN team across outdoor and indoor
Further, Alberts name should be familiar to anyone who has owned a Sherco in the last decade, with his name etched onto the factory edition trials bikes up until 2018. Despite his success over his 23 year career, the thing that struck me was how much re remains a student of the sport and very process driven rather than rely on natural talent.
Albert reflects on the fun and enjoyment of being a trials rider over 23 years but we also get an insight into the top flight competition pressure and variables can turn something that should be fun, like riding a trials bike, can become a chore - living on the edge of offside (it will make more sense when you listen). We talk about his transition to Beta for his final year as a rider in TrialGP staving off a premature retirement from TrialGP.
We also get a scoop on Alberts next phase of his career as he leaves the Trial E class as a rider and how he has moved into a team manager capacity at Gas Gas and his observations of KTM taking over the Gas Gas brand. I thoroughly enjoyed this chat with one of the most accomplished riders in our sport and I hope you do to.
