Those 50 or so riders and their companions who attended this event will not forget it in a hurry. This would be due to the freezing conditions we had to endure for the weekend, at 10 am, Sunday morning the temperature was about 5 degrees C, with a medium strength wind. Riders briefing and trophy presentation were conducted around the fire. Queenslanders are not used to such conditions, snow flakes were spotted on Saturday afternoon!
Starting half an hour earlier at 9.30, the first 3 x riders departed scrutineering to begin the 10 section course. Steadily , groups of three left at 2 minute intervals, all with 5 x hours to complete the allotted laps. The granite rock course was relatively easy to set and proved to be an enjoyable challenge for the riders. We were fortunate also, to have some spectators from the Stanthorpe region.
The competition results certainly showed a good contest among the riders competing on the blue line, with both Tom Rafferty and Steve Holzhauser finishing on 2 points. My ride on section 10 on the last lap(cleaning the nasty undercut step) was enough to cap off a good riding day for me. No injuries were reported and I hope all that attended had a good Trials adventure to Stanthorpe. All should be fine to have this event again next year, maybe 2 weeks earlier!
