Jurrasic Trial Costa Rica

Matt Hannaford is off to Costa Rica this Friday for the start of a 4 day Trials adventure.  Located in the Peninsula de Nicoya in Guanacaste area of Costa Rica.  The event kicks off with a parade and welcome ceremony in the town of Carmona.  Activities include a Trial exhibition held during the local town festival – party time before the gruelling jungle.

This trial is modelled on the Scottish Six Day Trial.  There will be three levels of rider ability catered for.  Hard line for the Pro/advanced class, an easier line for clubperson/novice and a line for riders who just want to ride the course without competing.

The first day of competition is Friday November 29.  Riders set off in one minute intervals to cover 72 kilometres with 20 sections.  Sections are mostly set in waterfalls along creeks with plenty of water crashing down.  At least the water will be warm.  The route is through the mountains of Nandayure and ends at Samara Beach.

Day 2 starts and finishes at Samara and covers 86 kms again through the mountains of Nandayure.  Again, there are 20 sections. Day 3 is easier – only 25 kms long but again with 20 sections.  The route takes in the Falls in Mala Noche river in Samara.  The finish is Samara beach.

Matt will be hiring a Vertigo Vertical from the organizers.  The organizers did a deal with the Vertigo factory to provide hire bikes instead of taking your own bike as many participants will be doing.  There are some really big names amongst the 54 competitors representing 20 countries.  Three-time World Champion Yrjo Vesterinen, World number 2 Berta Abelan, Vertigo team members Jamie Busto and Pau Martinez are the stand outs.  American champ Pat Smadge and Irish Champ Andy Perry are also on the entry list.

Look for Matts writes up after each day.  Should be quite a read.
