A number of riders have been asking about the developing situation between MNSW and the NSW Moto Trials Sports Committee so here’s a quick update.
The history...
In late August, MNSW began action to remove the Chairman of NSW Moto Trials Sports Committee, Bill Guthrie. In a letter tendered by MNSW to the Committee it was suggested that the Board had no confidence in the members of NSW Moto Trials Sports Committee and that its chairman must resign.
This position directly contradicts both the effort put in by the Committee and the outcomes achieved over the past 2 years which include: progressing from 1 State Title Open in 2007 to successfully running 7 events in 2008, 7 events in 2009 and successfully promoting the 2009 Australian Moto Trials championships. In addition both the Junior and Women classes competing at State events have grown considerably.
In view of the MNSW’s position, the remaining members of NSW Moto Trials Sports Committee, Graham Peace, Tony Coomer, David Ault & Bob Tindal, tendered their resignations to MNSW Board on 24th September 2009.
So what’s happening now...
Immediately following the resignations the outgoing members, Graham Peace, Tony Coomer, David Ault & Bob Tindal Plans, along with Bill Guthrie as chairman and new members Matt Charles, Paul Arnott and Paul McGrath, formed a new committee specifically for the Promotion and Event Management of trials in NSW
MNSW will appoint an Administrator until the next round of elections in 2010 when a new MTSC will be appointed. This Administrator has a reporting role only to MNSW & no say or authority in the running of any NSW events.
Briefly, events will still be run & coordinated by the Committee under the host Club principles as per the last two years. The sole intention of this committee being:
To ensure that our top state riders in all classes have the opportunity to continue to compete on the national and international stage,
To continue to encourage our growing junior and women ranks
To ensure that the rest of the NSW trials community has a significant series of state open events to enjoy with the minimum of hassle.
A new trials Calendar for 2010 is nearing completion and will be published soon. The events will continue to be run under MA & MNSW guidelines with all correct Permit Insurance and associated documentation managed and submitted to the MNSW Administrator according to guidelines.
So what do the changes mean for you the rider...
Essentially very little... other than - the MNSW Rules of Governance limited the number of members to 7 thus denying the opportunity for members of the NSW trials community to make a contribution to the running of our events. The new Promoting Committee has no such limitations meaning anyone is entitled to attend meetings, discuss issues and help shape our sport.
There has already been considerable interest from riders with a number confirming their contribution and it is envisaged that each Club will provide a representative to attend meetings on behalf of their club members. However we will need more, so keep tuned in to updates on meetings in the coming months.
Should any riders be unsure of these changes or wish to offer their assistance please contact any of the individuals mentioned above, your support, encouragement and contribution will be most welcome.
