ROBERT Mestrom was elected as Motorcycling Victoria’s 16th president at the State Controlling Body’s Annual General Meeting at Newport-Braybrook Motorcycle Club in Spotswood on Wednesday night, April 10.
“We really must thank Darryl Hiddle for his many years of extremely dedicated work. The 37 years that he has been a part of MV; you can’t replace that. Thank you Darryl It’s been fantastic,” Rob continued.
“Darryl has helped MV grow from nothing and has left the organisation in a really strong position to take advantage of any opportunities that should arise. I would also like to thank Neil Bowen and Kevin Williams (outgoing Board members) for their time on the Board,” Rob added.
“I also appreciate the support of the Clubs who voted for me, it is an honour to have your support” Robert said.
“I look forward to working with the new MV Board (new members include Gavin Cosway, Julianne Randell, and Darren Sciberras), the Clubs, the management committees, and the MV staff in the one forward direction, which I’m sure will make us the envy of all the other states. If we all work as one anything is achievable,” Rob said.
"I don't think that we are doing anything wrong, but we can do better, there's always room for improvement the key to our success will be our ability to work as a team at all levels."
Rob, who has ridden road bikes and dirt bikes since he was a teenager, became involved with Motorcycling Victoria 14 years ago when his son was interested in motocross. He has been president of the Cobram Border Junior Motorcycle Club for 11 years and joined the MV Board in 2010 after spending 10 years on the motocross committee.
“I don’t think we do anything wrong but there’s always room for improvement,” Rob added.
The 2013 MV Board is as follows:
Rob Mestrom (President)
Gary Timmerman
Mark Hancock
Lorraine Macdonald
John Orchard
Denise Hore
Gavin Cosway
Julianne Randell

“All the efforts of our staff, volunteers, management committees and MV members are really second to none in motorcycle sport, and it will be great to continue that so that we can further grow and strengthen Motorcycling Victoria together,” Rob added.
MV CEO Andrew Weiss was excited by the new appointment: “It is great to have Rob on board as the new President of Motorcycling Victoria,” Andrew said.
“Rob has been active throughout MV and MA for many years, and together with the newly appointed Directors, will bring an experienced yet fresh approach at Board level,” Andrew added.
“We are all looking forward to working together over the next 12-months to continue to achieve great results like we have seen in the past few years.”
