Trials Club of Victoria Argyle 2 day Queens Birthday Weekend 12th to 14th June
This is the third year of running this event at the Argyle property and it’s popularity can only be gauged by the number of riders attending. Three years ago we had 35 entries, this year we had over 70, not bad for what is basically a social event.
The 1200 acre property offers unlimited camping sites, plenty of fire wood, great variety of sections and the spit roast on Sunday night topped off a weekend of fantastic riding and a whole heap of fun. All this and only 6kms from Heathcote.
Aaaaah… there is a Trials God.
This event was specifically designed to offer a social weekend where riders could have a ping at something different, maybe step a grade, try a different bike or just ride round with your mates and poke a bit of fun.
Steve and Bert Johnson, Tom Scott and Trevor Campbell decided that twin shocks over B grade lines was the go so out came two Bultaco’s, a Montesa and a Yamaha and I’ve never seen four blokes laugh so much as they tried to enlist all their skills to get through the sections.
Scott Owen and Olli Fitzpatrick decided it was time to join the sidecar scene so Pete Sens brushed off his 300 Gas Gas handed it over, with very little instructions and they took on the combinations of Pete/Herb and Tim/Kerrin. It’s got to be said that Scott and Olli were spent by the end of the weekend but they were encouraged by a group of interested onlookers to keep going. I think it was more for the amusement of the crowd than anything else however; they did master the Mono Section. I think they have the whole sidecar thing out of their blood now!!
It was great to see Sam King have a red hot go as some of the Expert sections and he was the worthy recipient of the Perpetual Trophy for 2010.
In addition it’s at this event that the Arron Booth Memorial trophy is presented to a young up and coming rider as a means of encouragement to keep up the hard work. This year it was presented to the winner of ‘B’ Grade, Zac Mularcyzk who has made the successful transition from C+ and puts in a lot of time and effort in his goal to achieve success.
This event is clearly gaining in popularity and by offering a social event in the middle of the year gives a lot of riders and their families the opportunity kick back and remind themselves that trials really is fun.
With all events there are people in the background that pull the thing together and it’s great to be part of a vibrant club that has the ability to get on with the job and have a heap of fun along the way. A special tanks to Glenda Whittle who did all the scoring, the Johnson family for organising and cooking the spit roast and all the TCV members who put in to make this a great long weekend.
